Maurice Marroun

A Foundation Built on Hard Work, Family and Vision

Behind every strong leader is a story that shaped them.

For James Marroun, that story begins with his father, Maurice Marroun – a builder whose determination, resilience and commitment to family laid the foundations not only for a successful construction business, but for the values that continue to guide the next generation.

Maurice’s journey represents more than business success. It represents the power of persistence, migration, opportunity and legacy.

From Humble Beginnings to Opportunity in Australia

Born in 1944, Maurice developed a strong sense of responsibility from a young age, working alongside his father in Kuwait during his teenage years. These early experiences introduced him to construction work and the discipline required to build something meaningful from the ground up.

In 1964, he migrated to Australia with little more than ambition and determination.

Like many migrants of his generation, Maurice began by taking whatever work was available before returning to his trade roots and establishing his own formwork business in 1968 – the beginning of what would later grow into Cedars Concrete.

Building More Than Structures

Through the 1970s and beyond, Maurice built a reputation for integrity, reliability and quality workmanship across Sydney’s construction sector.

He worked alongside respected industry figures and organisations including Harry Triguboff and Meriton, as well as leading construction firms connected with De Martin & Gasparini. These relationships reflected the trust he earned through consistency and delivery.

But Maurice believed construction was never just about buildings.

It was about opportunity.
It was about community.
And it was about creating a future for the next generation.

A Legacy Passed from Father to Son

Maurice and his wife raised five children while building a family business grounded in loyalty, resilience and hard work – values that would shape James’ approach to leadership from an early age.

Watching his father build a business from the ground up gave James firsthand exposure to:

  • responsibility at a young age
  • the importance of reputation and relationships
  • commitment to family alongside business
  • the belief that success is earned through persistence

These lessons became the foundation of James’ leadership philosophy and later influenced the creation and growth of TLH Group.

A Builder of People, Not Just Projects

Maurice believed every project represented more than construction – it represented trust.

His approach to business centred on keeping commitments, supporting family and building relationships that lasted decades.

That philosophy continues today through the businesses and partnerships shaped by the next generation.
